WATKINS / WEM AMPLIFIERS

THE WEM SAPPHIRE 60 COMBO AMPLIFIER (1967)

A three channel, six input combo amplifier that appeared in the 1967 WEM catalogue.......and then disappeared again without a trace! It was described as a "custom built amplifier", so perhaps we should take that description literally and can we therefore assume that the Sapphire 60 was only available to special order and built in very small quantities? Certainly, we have never seen or heard of one, apart from it being in the catalogue of course.

The three channel/six input makes one believe that this amplifier was intended to put the Vox AC30 back into its place, as a combo that a small band could use as its only amplification. Certainly, the 60watt RMS output would help there, as well as the reverb and tremolo facilities also built in on one channel.
