THE HOFNER GUITAR CATALOGUES - PART II

1973 to 1990

The 1971 Catalogue illustrated in Part I was the last proper multi-page catalogue issued by the Hofner until after the company was taken over by Boosey & Hawkes in 1994. The flow of new models in the 1970's, 80's and 90's meant that keeping catalogues up to date would have been a prohibitably high cost exercise. Instead, folded leaflets illustrating the various models produced of the various types were printed, with finally many single-sheet flyers showing individual guitar models.

The artwork used for this marketing varied tremendously, with very little attempt at uniformity for any length of time. Occasionally some real design flair was evident, with for example the Professional Line mini-catalogue of 1978, and the Childrens' Guitar leaflet of 1990. The Shorty Guitar flyer of 1982 is also worth noting, particularly as the model's legs belong to someone who has been very closely connected with the Company!
