JIM SOMERS AND HOFNER PRESIDENT No. 2129

Notes on the guitar provided by Mrs Somers when passing on the guitar following Jim's death in the 1990's.


Hofner President.
First purchased around 1953-4 in Northern Island.
Taken to Western Australia in 1955.
Formed duo with Greg Hartney (Accordion). Played in hotels and beer gardens around the City.
Then met English (Django Style) guitarist Norm Sherret and formed two guitar duo - appeared on first live televised broadcast from Western Australia - featuring Rolf Harris.
Later joined by Big Bass (Scotty) appeared on TV and Radio regularly.
Went to Melbourne - worked here for a while and travelled back to UK via New Guinea and Far East.
Played in London for a while; finally in Bolton(Lancashire).

Main Interests:Django, Country and Western, Gershwin, etc.
