SELMER AMPLIFIERS - SERIAL NUMBERS

 1. EARLY/RSA PERIOD - 1946 to 1956

This equipment was supplied to Selmer by the RSA company who operated from premises on Flitcroft Street inf the Charing Cross Road area of London which was close to Selmer's base at 114 Charing Cross Road. RSA had actually been bought by the then Henri Selmer company in December 1947, who from then on developed the early RSA output into a more guitar-based range but still using the Truvoice brand name that RSA had being using previously on their equipment.

The serial numbers initially used by RSA seems to have used a single series of numbers applied to all their models. On the introduction of the new Truvoice guitar combos in around 1952, each model then had its own number series, preceded by its model number (e.g. 15/279 for a TV15 numbered 279). The first models therefore to have this new system were the TV10 and TV15 combos, but this system was later carried on into the Maroon/Grey period of amplifiers when models such as the TV18 were introduced. These numbers were displayed on small white plastic plates reverted to the the rear of the amplifiers chassis and viewed through a small cut-out in the amplifiers back panel.

Prior to the introduction of the TV combo models, RSA serial numbers were displayed by a variety of methods, including simply penciling them onto the inside of the cabinet.
