UPDATE - Max, the owner of this guitar, has changed the electrics on this guitar by simply removing the original Hofner scratch-plate and replacing it with an attractive brown-mottled plastic type with new pickups and a chrome control panel. (The original black scratchplate/pickups/electrical controls unit has been safely stored away for future re-installation!) Two photos of the very succesfully modified Alpha are shown below:
