Note that the pickguard on this guitar is actually made of white pearloid, and not plain white as it appears on this photo. During this period, Hofner's original source of German-made white pearloid had dried up, and hence they were sourcing this material from Japan - see below.
Japanese-made Gotoh tuners were being fitted to the 500/1 bass at this time by Hofner.
