This model is one specially commissioned by the Japanese distributor of Hofner guitars and is therefore intended for sale only in Japan. It is basically Hofner's Vintage '62 Re-Issue model (now known as the "Mersey"), but with a number of minor additional features that are considered by the Japanese to make the guitar closer resemble Paul McCartney's own 1963 500/1.
On the WHP model, the pickguard is not fitted in Hofner's workshop, but included loose in the case for the owner to fit if he so wishes.
The bridge pickup is fitted closer to the bridge, as appears to be the case on the McCartney guitar.
The guitar's output jack-socket is located a little closer towards the tailpiece, in a similar position to that on the McCartney bass.
The tailpiece is fitted so as to slightly raise the tailpiece off the body top at the end-hinge location. In addition, no strap buttons are fitted to the guitar.
The shape of the WHP headstock is intended to more faithfully re-produce that on the McCartney bass.
The guitar's Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Klaus Schöller - the CEO of the Karl Hofner Company.
