c1994 - 96 HOFNER '61 RE-ISSUE 500/1 "CAVERN" BASS GUITAR
MUSIC GROUND "12/400"(?)
COURTESY OF DAVE TAKIS, GEORGIA, USA:
The case for this guitar is almost certainly the original
suuplied, but it does not appear to be the usual German-made shaped type. It is
believed that Music Ground had a number of non-shaped cases manufactured (in the
UK?) for some of the basses that they supplied to US dealers.
The tags originally supplied with this guitar are also very unusual. It is
possible that they were attached to the bass by a US retailer after it was
supplied to them by Music Ground.
No serial number seems to have been
allocated to this bass, either in the form of a stamping on the headstock, a
certificate, or an internal body label. The "12/400" on the tag could
be taken for a serial number, but this is actually part of the printing on the
tag which one would not expect if it were an individual serial number.
