Very
unusual tuners, particularly on a 1958 Congress. However, the evidence
says that they have been on the guitar from new. Were they a sample set
supplied to Hofner by a prospective supplier, which Hofner subsequently
decided not to use as standard fittings on their guitars? I can't
recall any other 1950's Hofner guitar having been fitted with enclosed
single tuners, other than the Hofner Deluxe model.
