TYPES OF BRIDGES COMMONLY FITTED TO HOFNER ARCHTOP & SOLID GUITARS

(From the Early 1950's up to the 1980's.)



TYPE 72-18

("Ebonised" wood or occasionally Rosewood with Single Plastic Saddle.)

Fitted to budget archtops such as the Congress, Senator, 449, 450, 455, 456 Models, and also the President/457 up to the early 1960's.

TYPE 72-18C

(Plastic with Individual Plastic Saddles.)

Fitted to budget archtops for a period during the early 1970's. 

TYPE 72-20

(Ebonised Wood with Individual Brass Fretwire Saddles. Occasionally Plastic Base and Bridge with Brass Saddles.)

Fitted to all mid and high quality archtops, Clubs, and thinline-electrics up to the introduction of the Type 72-23 Bridge in the early 1960's. Then continued on many archtop, particularly acoustic, and Club models.

TYPE 72-23 - MICROMATIC

(Ebonised Wood Base with Steel Channel Bridge. Adjustable Individual Steel Saddles.)

Introduced c1963, and from then fitted to most Verithin, thinline & full bodied electric archtops, and some acoustic archtops.

TYPE 72-25

(Steel "Screw-Down" Bridge with Adjustable Clear Plastic Saddles. 72-25A Version Fitted with String Damper.)

Introduced in late 1960's, and fitted to many solid models, plus some thinline archtops, and Verithins. Used in particular with Hofner Vibrato tailpiece.

String-damper version used exclusively on solids.

TYPE 72-30

(All Nickel-Plated Steel with Vertical Adjustment Only.) 

Fitted to early solid models, prior to introduction of Type 72/25 Bridge.

BIGSBY BRIDGE

(Aluminium with Vertical Adjustment Only.)

Fitted with Bigsby Vibrato Units on Selmer UK guitars only.
